LARGO
Featuring Gast Waltzing
This group mixes it up with many styles incorporated into their work. Mainly composed of Gast Waltzing and David Laborier, they often incorporate a DJ, sometimes a rapper or as in their most recent release, a Brass Band from New Orleasn to add texture and new sounds. ( See Jazed up in New Orleans CD) . They have toured in Europe, Russia, China Vietnam and Japan. They've recorded with Warner Bros London, and have released 4 albums. Their live performances are full of energy and great original music.
David Laborier Trio
Guitarist David Laborier introduced this new project in May 2012 at the ‘Like A Jazz Machine’ festival in Dudelange, Luxembourg. With a repertoire of compositions written by the bandleader, the trio has earned critical acclaim for their debut performance:
‘His (Laborier’s) command of both busy, note-heavy rhythmic lines and more sparse, easy breathing melodies was impressive, but his composing and, above all, astute harmonizing with his two accompanists, also caught the ear.’ (Kevin Le Gendre – Echoes Magazine, UK)
O.N.J.L .
Orchestre National de Jazz Luxembourg
The Mission of the O.N. J. L., and Gast Waltzing’s concept for the formation is many layered.
First; to provide a platform for the upcoming young jazz musicians in Luxembourg. A place they can use their skills, write for the formation and play with musicians of the same caliber.
The second is to contribute to the renewal of the literature for the Big Band as an art form. Waltzing, who will be the chef of the Orchestra for 3 years, is also the major composer for the formation. The next chef, who will also head the Big Band for 3 years, will also be required to write an original program for the formation. In this manor,
a large and varied new original repertoire for the big band will be created.
Jean-Jacques Maillet
Presenting Jean Jacque Maillet. This young, (only 15) new, talent, is one of the most promising to be discovered in Luxembourg in recent years.
Still a student in the jazz department of the Conservatory of Luxembourg City, he has very surely established his place as a performer, improviser and as a composer. Since he was small, he has been a musician and that is what his profession will be and has worked hard at the same time learning and developing his composing and arranging skills.
Recently offered an opportunity to record his first CD with his own original compositions he wrote 8 works for a large jazz ensemble of 12 musicians. 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 violin, 2 guitars 1 piano, 1 bass and drums.
